Air ambulance reportedly attended the scene of a single-vehicle collision on Highway 99 on June 19, according to DriveBC.

Whistler RCMP are investigating after a single-vehicle incident closed the Sea to Sky highway on June 19.

At about 6:45 p.m., the RCMP "received a report of a single-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle in the area of Retta Lake on Highway 99," said Cst. Katrina Boehmer with the RCMP.  "One individual was taken to hospital with unconfirmed injuries. The highway was closed for a short period of time. The cause of the collision is still under investigation."

With sunshine and high temperatures in the forecast and summer just around the corner, RCMP are warning motorists to exercise caution.

"With the summer months approaching, the volume of traffic in the Sea to Sky corridor increases, road construction sites are more common, and wildlife can inadvertently wander in and around the roadway," Boehmer said. "It is imperative that motorists drive with caution to prevent unnecessary collisions with vehicles or wildlife and to ensure the safety of all residents and visitors as they travel through the Sea to Sky corridor."

RCMP conducts regular speed enforcement on Highway 99, and motorists travelling the Sea to Sky should familiarize themselves with the variable speed limit system in the corridor, Boehmer added. Fines payable for speeding can range up to $483.00 and can result in the vehicle being impounded.

Anyone who witnessed the June 19 incident, or any erratic driving or excessive speeding in the Whistler area, is encouraged to contact the Sea to Sky Whistler RCMP at 604-932-3044, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or go to the website www.solvecrime.ca.
