Members of the Lil'wat Nation and residents of Pemberton came together for a very special community conversation on Monday, Sept. 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Hosted by Dr. Lorna Wanosts’a7 Williams and supported by the Village of Pemberton, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District and Natalie Langmann's Aligned Creative, the event saw hundreds gather at Pemberton's Downtown Community Barn for an insightful conversation and shared meal.
Wanosts'a7 is Professor Emerita of Indigenous Education, Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Victoria and Canada Research Chair in Education and Linguistics. She has spent her life ensuring Indigenous children get the start in life they deserve.
She called Monday's gathering between the two communities the first of its kind.
