The Pemberton Valley Lodge (PVL) was recognized last week by the Tourism Industry Association of BC (TIABC) for its human resources practices, particularly as it pertains to supporting mental health and wellness in the workplace. PVL received the Employees First Award at the March 6 TIABC conference.

"Our team is the heart of Pemberton Valley Lodge, and this award is a testament to the incredible culture we've built together," said managing director David MacKenzie, in a release. "We believe that investing in our employees' well-being—both professionally and personally—leads to a stronger, more engaged team and ultimately enhances the experience we provide to our guests.”

The Lodge “was selected for its progressive HR initiatives, including mental health programs, staff wellness initiatives, professional development opportunities, and a strong workplace culture that prioritizes employee well-being,” according to the release. The award is presented annually at the TIABC conference and recognizes businesses that demonstrate a deep commitment to fostering a positive, supportive and inclusive work environment.

The 85-suite lodge, located 30 minutes north of Whistler, has been operating in Pemberton since 2004. PVL said the award reinforces its desire to attract and retain the best employees, while addressing those employees’ needs with—literally—award-winning resources and support.

“We're incredibly proud to be recognized for our efforts and remain committed to creating a workplace where our employees feel valued, supported and empowered to thrive," said MacKenzie.
