The results are in: West Vancouver-Sea to Sky has gone Green.
The BC Greens' Jeremy Valeriote won a nail-biter on Election Night 2024 in the West Vancouver-Sea to Sky riding, earning the Greens their first-ever mainland MLA.
After coming within 60 votes of toppling the Liberal incumbent four years ago, Valeriote took a close win Oct. 19 in what ultimately turned out to be a tight two-way race between him and the BC Conservatives' Yuri Fulmer. Valeriote garnered 10,396 votes, representing 38.19 per cent of the count. Fulmer, meanwhile, earned 9,713 votes, 35.66 per cent of the vote, while the BC NDP’s Jen Ford garnered 7,164 votes and 26.27 per cent. (Editor's Note: Vote totals were updated Oct. 28 to include mail-in ballots.)
Province-wide, at press time, projections have the NDP taking 46 seats in the legislature—one shy of a majority—to the Conservatives' 45. Including Valeriote's, the Greens are projected to win two seats. But with several ridings achingly close after Election Night tallies, it looks as if there will be judicial recounts in at least a few races, which could ultimately shift the balance of power in B.C.
