A water-main break caused flood damage to two Whistler Housing Authority (WHA) buildings last week, leaving residents without water overnight.
At 9:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, the Resort Municipality of Whistler’s (RMOW) utilities team received a call about a water-main break on Seppos Way, near Nesters, according to a statement from the municipality. The break caused flooding in two nearby WHA buildings, 7525 and 7531 Seppos Way.
By 10:30 p.m., the RMOW said it identified the leak and shut off water service to both buildings to stop the flooding. Water service was restored to 7531 Seppos Way at 11:30 a.m. the following morning, and an hour later at 7525 Seppos Way.
“The exact cause of the leak, as well as the extent of repair required, is yet to be determined,” the statement continued. “Flooding damage will be determined by Whistler Housing Authority and their insurance adjusters.”
A video posted to social media Feb. 7 showed knee-deep water flooding the underground parkade of one of the buildings on Seppos Way.
“For tenants who may have been affected, the standard advice is to claim any damages through their own insurance,” the RMOW said.
Known as Nesters Pond, 7525 and 7531 Seppos Way offers one-, two-, and three-bedroom units through WHA’s rental waitlist, with the average monthly rate ranging from $1,198 to $3,961 a month, according to the WHA website.
