UPDATED

The municipality is asking Whistler residents affected by an ongoing water main break to reduce their water use as crews continue working to fix the issue that occured in Bayshores late on Sunday, Nov. 7.

The Resort Municipality of Whistler's (RMOW) utilities crew has spent the duration of Monday on site working to address a water main break discovered at the service valve for the Millars Ridge Employee Housing Complex, located at 2704 Cheakamus Way. After isolating the leak on Sunday, crews are now focused on preparing the site for repair.

The incident has affected water service to Millars Pond and Bayshores area residents thorughout the day. As of Monday afternoon, the RMOW said service has been restored to the Millars Pond and Bayshores areas, except for the strata complex at 2704 Cheakamus Way. The neighbourhoods, however, are currently "being supplied by a temporary service and will have reduced flow capacity," the RMOW warned. As such, affected residents are "asked to reduce their water use as much as possible to avoid over taxing the temporary service capacity."

The RMOW said repairs to the water main break site at 2704 Cheakamus Way will not be completed before tomorrow. As such, residents will remain without water overnight.

For the time being, the municipality is working to supply affected complexes with bottled water, while residents of 2704 Cheakamus Way are invited to access Meadow Park Sports Centre and its shower facilities for free until 8:30 p.m. Monday evening. Affected residents must provide proof of address in the form of ID, a lease or a utility bill.

(The provincial health orders requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination in order to access Meadow Park Sports Centre for those aged 12 or older remains in effect.)

To report an emergency issue with water or wastewater, contact the RMOW's utilities Department: 604-935-8190 or its after-hours emergency line at 604-935-8320. Stay tuned to whistler.ca/services/advisories for updates.
