With the 2022 Beijing Olympic Winter Games just a couple weeks away, fans are starting to get a picture of who will be representing Canada in their respective sports.
The Canadian Olympic snowboard and luge teams were both announced this week, each with multiple Whistler connections.
While there are no born and raised Whistlerites on the snowboard team just yet, the group features a handful athletes who call the Sea to Sky home—for at least part of the year— including slopestyle riders Mark McMorris, Brooke Voigt, Jasmine Baird and Darcy Sharpe, as well as halfpipe rider Derek Livingston.
The rest of the slopestyle team includes a trio of Quebecers—Max Parrot, Laurie Blouin and Sebastien Toutant—while the halfpipe team includes Elizabeth Hosking and Brooke D’Hondt.
Zoe Bergermann, Tess Critchlow, Meryeta O'Dine. Audrey McManiman, Eliot Grondin, Kevin Hill and Liam Moffatt will also compete in snowboard cross.
Meanwhile, three Sea to Sky athletes will be representing Canada in luge, including 19-year-old Pemberton native Trinity Ellis and 18-year-old Whistlerite Natalie Corless, who will be competing in their first Games. Joining them is Whistler’s Reid Watts, who will be attending his second Olympic Games.
The rest of the team is made up of Calgarians Justin Snith, Tristan Walker and Makena Hodgson.
Opening Ceremonies for the 2022 Winter Olympics will get underway on Friday, Feb. 4.
