Welcome to BizBeat, Pique’s newest web series profiling Whistler businesses and their employees who go above and beyond.

Each week, we will profile another resort employer and one of its staff, who have each agreed to answer the same questionnaire that has been sent to businesses and employees across the community.

This week it's Meli Auto Spa, the auto cleaning and detailing company that services both Whistler and Port Moody. We hear from owner and founder Melanie Montgomery, who, who, as a one-woman operation, has agreed to answer both the business and worker questionnaires (the latter of which will go online tomorrow). 

The following interview has been lightly edited for grammar and clarity. 

Pique: Describe your business and the products/services it provides, as well as when it launched.

Meli Auto Spa is a mobile, pick-up-and-drop-off car detailing service. It launched in April 2021. 

What do you like the most about doing business in Whistler?

I love getting to know the other locals while I’m contributing to the community. Where we live is pretty special.

What do you like the least about doing business in Whistler? 

That I still have to maintain a full-time job along with my business to afford housing. Making work and life balance is a challenge. 

If you were mayor for a day, what single policy would you implement in Whistler to best support local businesses?

Better access to childcare. I would provide grants to childcare providers and affordable options to local businessowners and employees that require childcare.  

What’s a memorable moment or customer from your time doing business in Whistler?

Being a mobile, or pick-up-drop-off service, has allowed for me to get to those customers that are tied up and busy. They do what they need to do while I come refresh their car. No stress to them. That feels pretty good.
