The Whistler Writing Society (WWS) is set to hold its annual general meeting (AGM) on Sept. 26 in the Whistler Public Library. Afterwards, there will be a free workshop titled "Demystifying Self-Publishing: Myths, Realities & Stories" facilitated by Leanne Janzen.
The workshop, offered as a webinar, will equip attendees with an understanding of the industry’s evolution, debunk some common myths about self-publishing, and shed light on how important it is to find the right publishing partner. Janzen (a publishing specialist at Friesen Press) is also giving one attendee a free manuscript evaluation.
All AGM attendees will have a chance to win a copy of Just Say Yes by Bob McDonald, who is a Whistler Writers Festival (WWF) guest author this fall and the host of CBC radio program Quirks and Quarks.
“We’re a creative, community organization, and it’s important to us that people feel welcome and can see what we’re about, which is why we open our doors to everyone,” said WWS artistic director Rebecca Wood Barrett in a press release. “Plus, it’s fun to connect with people and to be able to offer a free workshop to inspire writers and help them on their publishing journey.”
The WWS, which operates the WWF, Authors in the Schools, the Whistler Writers in Residence program, one-day writing retreats and several more events every spring, encourages locals to drop by and learn about how the society is growing literary arts in the Sea to Sky corridor
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for pizza and networking before the AGM begins at 6:00 p.m. in-person and on Zoom. Janzen's workshop will follow at 6:30 p.m.
WWF tickets are available now, with the festival slated for Oct. 17 to 20. Check out more details here.
