Local drama fans may want to mark their calendars for May 10, as the Chair Series returns to Whistler.

As it's name may indicate, the only prop utilized in this theatre event is a single chair. Vancouver-based playwright John McGie tailors monologues specifically for each of his eight actors, who must rely on their own skills to deliver a compelling performance. Segments are meant to stand alone, but can also flow into one another to generate a cohesive viewing experience.

Actors on deck this time around include Robyn Forsyth, David Francis, Kathryn Daniels, Myrna Bush, Allison Hunter, Brandon Barrett and Valentina Garcia.

"[The Chair] makes everything simpler," McGie says in a January interview with Pique Newsmagazine. "It really gets down to the craft of performance and writing, so if I suck or they suck, there's no hiding. It's theatre for the short attention span. I'm writing it for myself, because I get bored really fast … and for some odd reason, when actors memorize monologues, they want to perform in front of an audience."
