WHAT: Whistler Fifth Annual Oscar Party
WHERE: Garibaldi Lift Co.
WHEN: Sunday, March 25, 7 p.m.
What started out as a tradition amongst friends has blossomed into a community fundraiser. Whistlers fifth Annual Oscar Party will benefit the local Museum and Archives Society.
Party co-ordinator, Cheryn Pollard, says last year they held the festivities at the GLC and it was very well attended. The five friends behind the party Pollard, Sue Bennett, Allison Staley, Karina Andrews and Mary Ellen Henderson simply decided to take it upon themselves to make it a benefit night.
"We didnt really realize how much there was to do," laughs Pollard. However, it doesnt sound like she really minds as she talks while en route to Vancouver to pick out decorations for the evening.
This is an opportunity for locals to dust off the pumps and break out the suits. Dress is "creative black tie". Outfits in the past have included everything from a Norma Desmond/Sunset Boulevard ensemble to formal wear for the modern cross-dressing couple.
Along with the Oscar broadcast on the big screen, appies and a glass of champagne, the night includes a silent auction, with prizes to suit everyones bidding budget. Items include everything from games to skis to the grand prize of a 2001-02 Whistler-Blackcomb Seasons Pass. Pollard thanks community businesses for their great generosity in donating the auction items.
Tickets are going quickly and can be purchased at the GLC, the Whistler Museum and Archives or by calling 905-2271.
