The 2023 Whistler Film Festival Industry Apres Networking Reception.

Aspiring screenwriters can now throw their names in the hat for the upcoming 2024 Whistler Film Festival (WFF) Screenwriters Lab.

The lab is described as an intensive multi-phase script and industry development program designed to amplify the diverse voices of Canadian screenwriters in a healthy environment.

Selected participants work with key film industry advisors and mentors in individual, group, and market-oriented sessions. These allow screenwriters to gain project-specific feedback and training in the lead-up to the next WFF.

The program is split into two components. Phase I, which lasts from May to September, includes a four-day workshop for script development followed by four months of individual mentorship tailored to each applicant that facilitates script development and pitch preparation.

Phase II, spanning October to December, involves five days of online business workshops, case studies and practice sessions.

Projects developed through the Screenwriters Lab include With Love and a Major Organ by Julia Lederer, Broken Angel by Dr. Jules Koostachin, Emily Bridger’s Little Orphans, A.W. Hopkins' Indian Road Trip and the Netflix piece Donkeyhead by Agam Darshi.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 15 at midnight. Learn more about the program here.
