Warm weather has forced Sun Peaks Resort resort to push its opening day back by a week.

The resort confirmed the change on Tuesday morning. Originally slated for Nov. 16, opening day has now been pushed to Nov. 23.

It’s an exciting time in the mountain resort, where a new $12-million chair lift is set to expand Sun Peaks’ skiable terrain.

Despite the balmy fall weather, Sun Peaks officials say snow is sticking at higher elevations.

“Snowmaking efforts began earlier this month and will soon resume in full force with temperatures forecast to cool this week,” the resort said in a statement.

Anyone who had already purchased tickets for use between Nov. 16 and Nov. 23 will be contacted directly by the resort.

“La Niña conditions are anticipated this winter and we are looking forward to a fantastic season ahead,” the Sun Peaks statement reads.
