Whistler councillors approved six new applications to increase licensed seating capacity, or to have patio capacities exempted from interior capacities at their June 4 council meeting. Final approval is now in the hands of the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch.
The Longhorn Saloon and Grill is applying for their patio capacity of 170 not to be deducted from their interior capacity. Buffalo Bills Bar and Grill is applying for an increase in interior capacity from 225 seats to the building occupancy of 335 seats. Hozs Pub has asked for 22 patio seat exemptions. Monks Grill is applying for 22 patio seat exemptions and to increase its interior capacity by seven seats. The Dubh Linn Gate Old Irish Pub has applied for 37 patio exemptions. Milestones Palomino Bar has applied for an increase of 21 seats.
19 th Hole approved for "A" license
Council is backing the Whistler Golf Course Clubhouse application to upgrade their license to a Class "A" Lounge license for a maximum of 16 seats. Councillors also endorsed applications for a licensed beverage cart and kiosk. The only condition is that the club has to enter into a Good Neighbour with the municipality.
Cantaloupe Caution
Health Canada is advising Canadians to be careful when preparing cantaloupe melons after an outbreak of Salmonella poona caused an outbreak of food poisoning the U.S. which killed at least two people. Fourteen states have reported cases.
Consumers are being warned to wash all their fruit and vegetables carefully any food that is grown on or near the ground can come into contact with animal waste carrying the disease. The Salmonella can get into the melon when you cut through the skin, or when skin and fruit come into contact on the cutting board.
You should scrub a cantaloupe with soap and hot water, and rinse with cool water before cutting. Cut away damaged or bruised areas. You should also clean knives, cutting boards and your hands carefully after eating, and throw away any of the fruit thats been sitting at room temperature for more than four hours.
