The B.C. Securities Commission stated Wednesday it reached a settlement with a man who lost $255,000 of investors’ money, including $75,000 for “personal purposes.”
Jeremy Alexei Benne has paid back $55,000 and received a permanent ban from participating in B.C.’s investment market, the commission stated in a news release.
Benne violated the B.C. Securities Act after raising the money from 23 investors between 2020 and 2023 through agreements to trade derivatives and securities on their behalf.
Benne “told the investors he could provide a 100 per cent return on their investments in one to three years using a trading strategy that he learned from third-party platforms,” the commission stated.
Benne was given credit for fully co-operating with the investigation, including providing information to investigators and admitting to the wrongdoing.
