B.C. COVID cases continue to fall

B.C. recorded 289 new cases of COVID-19 since yesterday and one death. Between Friday May 21 and Monday May 24, there were 974 new cases and 12 deaths.

B.C. recorded 289 new cases of COVID-19 since yesterday and one death.

Between Friday May 21 and Monday May 24, there were 974 new cases and 12 deaths.

From May 21 to May 22, there were 356 new cases, 325 from from May 22 to May 23, and 293 new cases from May 23 to May 24. There were an additional 289 cases since Monday and one additional death.

Daily counts have been steadily declining since mid-April.

There are 3,782 active cases in B.C. Of the total 142,636 British Columbians confirmed infected by COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, 137,062 have recovered. There are 301 people in B.C.who are in hospital with COVID-19 infections, 93 of whom are in intensive care.

To date, 2,927,487 British Columbians have received at least one dose of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna or AstraZeneca vaccine, and 148,580 have received a second dose.

"This means 64.6% of all adults have received their first dose," provincial health officer Bonnie Henry in a press release.

Earlier today provincial officials announced the next stage of B.C.'s restart plan.

"As cases continue to decline and immunizations steadily rise, we are moving forward with purpose, monitoring our progress to ensure we remain on track," Henry said.

Despite the increasing rates of immunization, there are still outbreaks in a number of B.C. long-term care homes and hospitals.
