MONCTON, N.B. — Julius Sumpf scored his second goal at 1:38 in overtime as the Moncton Wildcats edged the Quebec Remparts 4-3 in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League playoffs on Friday.
The Wildcats, who led the QMJHL regular season with 108 points and a 53-9-2 record, took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven first-round series.
Dylan MacKinnon and Gabe Smith also scored for Moncton. Mathis Rousseau stopped 22 shots.
Antoine Dorion, Thomas Auger and Justin Cote replied for Quebec. Louis-Antoine Denault made 39 saves.
