RCMP say suspect in fatal B.C. crash arrested after 5-day manhunt

LADYSMITH, B.C. — Police say they have arrested a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Vancouver Island after a five-day manhunt.

LADYSMITH, B.C. — Police say they have arrested a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Vancouver Island after a five-day manhunt.

A spokesman for RCMP Traffic Services says the suspect was arrested on unrelated matters and he is in custody on Vancouver Island.

Cpl. Mike Halskov says in a statement that police are not releasing the suspect's name or location as charges relating to the crash haven't been laid.

Ladysmith RCMP said they were called to a multi-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway on Saturday, where a southbound pickup truck jumped a centre median and collided with a northbound SUV.

The truck landed on its roof and the crash left a debris field hundreds of metres long.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, while police say the driver of the truck fled on foot and is believed to have stolen another vehicle from the area.
